      May 2021 General Membership Meetings
      05/05/21 - International Association of Firefighters
      Our next general membership meetings will take place on Tuesday, May 25th and Wednesday, May 26th at The Cabin on Rt. 33 in Freehold. Both meetings will take place on the patio (back room behind the fireplace) and start at 1700 sharp. Please make every effort to attend.

      It is with deep sorrow we report the passing of Fire Inspector Jeffrey King, IAFF Local 4746, Mashantucket Pequot Firefighters Union & IAFF Local F-219, Submarine Base Firefighters Union (retired).  Brother King, 60, passed away on April 17, 2021 from cancer.
      Cherry Creek State Park Water Rescue/Recovery

      Just before noon on Sunday, May 2, 2021 SMFR received calls for a kayaker who fell into the water at Cherry Creek State Park. Within minutes Local members arrived and were able to obtain multiple reports of the person’s last known location. Members from the Dive team started an extensive shore-based search fighting through near-zero underwater visibility and incoming storms.

      Brothers & Sisters, A City Chapter Special Meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 7, 2021 at 11:00a.m. at the Union Hall in accordance with Article II, Section 4 & Article V, Section 6 of the IAFF Local 244 Constitution & By-Laws. The purpose of this meeting will be for final membership approval of the IAFF 244/AFR Upgrading Outside of the Bargaining Unit MOU.

      This afternoon, April 28th, Local 2086 and 1309 members responded to a kitchen fire in a home on South Depew Street in Jefferson County. Members from first arriving Engine 16 found smoke venting from the roof, upgraded the response to a working structure fire and pulled an initial attack line.

      Around 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021, Local members responded to a traffic collision involving hazardous materials in the eastbound lanes of Hampden Avenue just west of Dahlia Street in Cherry Hills Village. 3 vehicles were involved including a passenger car that overturned as well as a commercial landscaping truck that tipped over.

      Willow Street Structure Fire

      At 1:53 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, Local members responded to a report of smoke inside a home at 6944 S. Willow Street in Centennial. Members from first arriving Engine 33 observed nothing showing from the exterior on arrival but discovered smoke and heat inside the first floor. The incident was upgraded to a working structure fire and additional resources were dispatched.

           Today marks the 38th anniversary of the death of Fireman Gary "Star" Kreski. Due to the recent COVID uptick as well as other factors, the decision was made to hold a small memorial ceremony today. Chief Heavener and members of the LFD Honor Guard Team placed a wreath at Gary's marker in Nehasil Park.
